Seungbin Im is a Korean Patent Attorney who, since qualifying in 2016, has been practicing at Y.P. Lee, Mock & Partners. He focuses on the domestic and international protection of inventions in the field of video compression technologies and other electronic/IT technologies. He also has extensive experience in a broad range of intellectual property matters, including standard essentiality verification, invalidity searches and analyses, patent consulting, and standard-essential patent portfolio management.
In particular, Mr. Im has handled video codec standard-essential patent matters for major Korean companies, including Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics. His experience covers the entire lifecycle of standard-essential patents, from invention mining before standardization to participation in international standardization meetings, patent prosecution after standardization, claim chart preparation, standard essentiality verification, patent pool evaluation, and invalidity analysis. He has particular strength in supporting clients’ R&D achievements to be secured as effective standard-essential patents by considering both the technical meaning of standard specifications and the legal scope of patent claims.
